Charles Junior from Malaga Scrap Metal
General Manager — Malaga Scrap Metal

Meet Charles Warner Jr

Charles Warner Jr is the General Manager at Malaga Scrap Metal. He runs the day-to-day across every department of the yard, from the weighbridge and sorting floor through to bins, collections and the front counter.

He is the son of owner Charles Warner and has grown up around the Perth scrap metal industry. Before stepping into the General Manager role he spent two years as a scrap metal handler, sorting, grading and processing ferrous and non-ferrous metals, so he knows the yard from the ground up.

He is also seven feet tall, which makes him easy to find when you need a hand with a heavy load.

How Charles Jr runs the yard

Charles Jr treats every customer like family. Whether you are dropping off a small load from a shed clean-out or bringing in regular quantities from a workshop or business, he wants you to get the same respect, the same fair deal and the same straight answer on what your metal is worth.

For him the job is about more than buying and selling metal. It is about helping people, building long-term relationships with local tradies and businesses, and making sure a trip to the yard is safe, easy and quick.

His responsibilities include:

  • Day-to-day management of all yard operations
  • Customer service at the counter and on the scales
  • Sorting, grading and processing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  • Coordinating scrap metal bins, collections and onsite pickups
  • Yard safety for customers, staff and contractors
  • Staff supervision and training

Safety first

Safety is a priority for Charles Jr. A scrap yard has heavy machinery, forklifts and sharp metal moving through it all day, and he works hard to keep Malaga Scrap Metal a safe and welcoming place for customers, staff, contractors and the wider community.

Background and qualifications

Before joining the scrap metal industry, Charles Jr worked as an audio visual technician, including fitting out audio and visual systems in the Chevron building in the Perth CBD. That technical background comes in handy when dealing with electrical scrap, cabling, motors and equipment.

His qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Audio Visual Science, SAE (2021)
  • Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation, TAFE (2023)

Charles Jr is proud of the work, proud of the relationships he has built, and proud to be part of an industry that keeps valuable metal out of landfill and gives it a second life.
