Khaled Hejleh

Khaled Hejleh is an investor and advisor to Malaga Scrap Metal. He brings more than 40 years of engineering, business and executive management experience to the yard, with a focus on running operations efficiently and building a business that customers keep coming back to.

A mechanical engineer by training, Khaled spent over three decades leading technology and engineering businesses, including 32 years as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Since 2023 he has worked as a mentor, consultant and investor, supporting Perth businesses like Malaga Scrap Metal with strategy, systems and growth.

Engineering and business background

Khaled started his career as a trainee engineer in 1981 and worked his way through development engineering, engineering management and business development before taking on the Managing Director role in 1991.

His early projects included the development of electronic control systems and AI software, and he invented a method for transacting sales over the internet. Over the following 25 years he led niche, world-first technology developments for the minerals exploration industry and built global markets for them through strategic distribution and support partnerships.

His experience covers:

• Executive and engineering management
• Strategic planning and business development
• Product application development
• Sales and negotiations
• Taking technical ideas and turning them into commercial results

What that means for Malaga Scrap Metal customers

Khaled's role is to help the team run a tighter, better yard. That means well-organised operations, clear processes on the scales and at the counter, and a business that invests in the right equipment and systems so customers get a quick, fair and consistent experience every visit.

He also brings an engineer's understanding of metals, machinery and equipment, which helps when assessing industrial scrap, plant and machinery, motors and mining-related material coming through the yard.

Qualifications

• BSc (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, including a major module in Electronic Engineering, University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), 1981
• A-levels in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, King's School Bruton, Somerset, England
